Off to the Desert: from Dubai to This is a little trip I made for NOI while I was in Dubai. They had an electrical warranty issue with the NDC (National Drilling Company, THE drillers in the UAE) Rig ND 25 and sent me to see if I could fix it. I went with a NOI Mechanical Engineer who was to work on some repairs to the jacking system. They had been complaining for a year about Foot Throttle problems. When I got there, after getting stuck in the sand, I found their problem was really the rig going in the dark when they floored it with an empty hook with less than 3 Cats on line.
